Reflection on Most Likely to Succeed
After watching the film Most Likely to Succeed, I was shocked at the information I gained from the video. It was one of the most eye-opening films I have watched. It was able to convey a great message that has made me question many of the values that have been instilled through a lot of traditional teaching. I have never really pursued any media related to my career, and starting with this film has been eye-opening; I hope to continue to find great media like this. Something that has shocked me was how quickly this film has been outdated, even though it was released in 2015. With how quickly technology is progressing, some concepts that seemed foreign and innovative, like AI writing essays, are now a fairly normal thing in my life with Chat GPT and other AI sources. It’s such a daunting idea knowing that what I know now, or how I am technologically up to date, will likely be dated soon and that I will one day be an out-of-touch adult.
Another really powerful concept presented to me was how the “Age of Knowledge” will impact the future knowledge students need to possess to be successful. This really stuck with me as I have never thought about how the workplace will change as technology advances. It is quite clear we will take another step forward as AI continues to progress, and what we teach kids will be crucial to allow them to succeed in a workplace that we have never seen. This is why I believe schools like High Tech High have such an important message. They have completely committed to the idea of fostering creativity over everything else. I think this way of teaching creates a student who is more likely to find success in the workplace due to the skills they learn, such as innovation, creativity and communication. These skills will be much more beneficial in my opinion, as technology becomes even more intelligent, making traditional knowledge obsolete. To be successful, you will have to do what AI can’t and use the human sides of your brain.
To finalize my first reflection, I am optimistic about videos like Most Likely to Succeed and High Tech High and my peers in the program. These ideas and people give me such high hopes for our future educators and schools as I know they are pursuing the most innovative and inclusive ways of learning, creating a better tomorrow because of it.
