Inquiry Project Summary

Goals:

  • Gain 100 ELO on my Chess.com Profile
  • Learn how to incorporate chess into my future classroom
  • Learn more about how chess impacts learning in students.
  • Create a chess-focused art project for my future class.

For me, this project felt like a lot of self-exploration. I did not know where I wanted to take this project, and I didn’t really know what to do at all. Setting goals early in my project gave me some rough outlines for myself to explore.

How it went:

Jumping into how this project went is complicated. I feel like I accomplished my goals and learned a lot about my topic; I did what I set out to do. I sometimes feel like I could have put more effort into the aesthetic of how this looked and how I presented my idea, but I am still proud of what I gained from the project. I have worked from starting with really no idea of what I wanted to do with this project to finishing with a strong understanding of what I want to do with chess in the future and the confidence to incorporate chess into my future class.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I do not think I was perfect in this project. There is a lot of room for me to improve on this website, and over the break, I plan on sprucing up my website and bringing it to a standard I feel confident in sharing in the future. I am really proud I was able to complete my goals and I think the goal setting was a great tool for making this project realistic and fun. I really hope I can incorporate chess in my future classrooms as I think it can be a super powerful tool in inspiring critical thinking, creativity, and learning in a non-traditional fashion.
